 | | Karen Tweed WWW.KARENTWEED.DK Karen's amazing talent and creativity have led her to an enduring career as one of the finest accordion players in Europe. She continues to work with the best musicians in the acoustic and roots genres and is a member of the much loved 'Poozies'. She visited NZ with 'Faerd' and I first met her when they were guests at Wellington Festival. She dropped in to an informal song session and I quickly discovered just what an incredibly versatile instrument the accordion can be in the deft hands of an expert. She generously offered to join the recording session when she was on holiday and her music colours many of the tracks on the new album. |

 | | Davy Stuart WWW.STUART.CO.NZ Luthier, gifted multi-instrumentalist, producer and recording engineer, Davy is a perfectionist at everything he does and the new album is heavily influenced by Davy’s music and his skill as producer and engineer. Over the years he's played with some of the finest Celtic bands; the award-winning 'Claddagh' and 'Rua' are two of the best known. He also collaborates with Helen Webby, Principal Harpist of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra to create wonderful duets on harp, guitar and cittern. Davy and wife Libby are firm friends of mine and I’ve spent many happy hours enjoying their legendary hospitality. I just wish they lived in Wellington!
Davy is a respected luthier and you can hear several of his beautiful instruments on the new cd including a lovely cedar and mahogany OM which Davy built for me and is probably the most handsome looking guitar I've ever seen. It is now owned and treasured by Bob McNeill. |

 | | Chris While and Julie Matthews WWW.WHILEANDMATTHEWS.CO.UK I first heard Chris and Julie when they headlined at Christchurch Folk Festival. They brought the house down as they do everywhere they play. One of the UK’s top acts, their recordings have praise lavished on them whenever they are released and they continue to pack venues whenever they tour.
They are incredibly generous with their music and are as entertaining and witty off stage as they are in performance. I spent a couple of days enjoying their company when I played at Devonport Folk Club a few years ago and I always look forward to their tours of NZ. They really enjoy coming to NZ so make sure you see them next time they are here.

 | | Tapani Varis WWW.FRESHET.NET Tapani Varis has been in the forefront of the Finnish folk music scene for some 15 years, playing with Finland's most popular folkband, Värttinä, as well as Maria Kalaniemi, Timo Alakotila, Arto Järvelä, The Helsinki Mandoliners, Faerd, Freshet and The American Cafe Orchestra. Tapani also teaches double bass and wind instruments at Finland’s prestigious Sibelius Academy. ‘Taps’ as we nicknamed him, always had a happy, relaxed manner as he tackled largely unfamiliar material when we were recording and it was a delight to work with him. He switched styles effortlessly and his bowed bass on ‘Franklin’ was a revelation. I hope he gets to spend some more time in NZ soon! |
